A Landmark Work: The Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance was first published in 1890 by Dr. James Strong who spent more than 35 years preparing it with the help of more than 100 linguists. It is perhaps the most copied Bible reference tool ever published. This work bridges the gap for the serious Bible student who does not have Hebrew and Greek language skills but desires to understand the intent of the original Bible languages as found in the Massoretic Hebrew Old Testament Text and the Greek Received New Testament Text. This accomplishment was achieved by Dr. Strong as he developed a complete concordance of English language words found in the King James Bible and then meticulously cross-referenced each to the original Hebrew/Chaldee and Greek words used in the original language received manuscripts. This new version contains easier to read print throughout.
The Unique Concordance: By definition a concordance of the words found in the King James Bible would contain a full list of the English language words and exactly where in the Bible they are found. So to that extent all King James concordances are the same. But what sets the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance so far apart is the cross-reference to unique original language number keys for each English language word found in the King James Bible. These number keys point to a specific Hebrew/Chaldee or Greek word in the dictionaries located in the back of the Concordance. And because unique number keys are used the serious student can quickly scan all the occurrences of an English language word to see if there were multiple original language words which were translated to the same English word. An example use of the concordance is provided on the reverse of this page.
The Hebrew/Chaldee/Greek Dictionaries: Bible linguists and translators know sometimes it can be difficult to select the correct English language word to fill the intended meaning of the original language word. Frequently that means a single original language word can be translated into one of several legitimate English language words and vice versa. The dictionaries constructed by Dr. Strong immediately draw the student’s attention to this fact by providing all of the English language words used by the King James translators to convey the original language meaning for each Hebrew/ Chaldee or Greek word. The dictionaries display the Hebrew/Chaldee or Greek word and provide a phonetic pronunciation as well as exact equivalent in English letters according to a generally accepted system of transliteration. An example use of the dictionaries is provided on the reverse of this page.
Standard Large Print Version: The new standard size version page size is approximately 8 3/4” by 11 1/4” and contains over 1,900 pages. A sample of the print size from this version is found on the reverse side of this information sheet.
